Pineapples cannot only be found in the store, they can also be found in your garden… if you grow them.

These sweet tasting plants from the bromeliad family can be grown from the top of another plant.

This excellent tutorial from will walk you through the steps of how to grow a pineapple top indoors.

NOTE: The “pink pineapple plant” make a decorative houseplant and is fun to grow.

Tip: In the tutorial they suggest and confirmed by others on our Facebook page NOT CUT the top off but twist it off!

“It’s best to NOT cut the top off but to twist it off then remove several leaves then plant in a pot.”

From our Facebook page:

Michelle shared her pineapple regrowing tips – “I just twist the top of the pineapple, pull about 1/2 to an inch of leaves off depending on how big the pineapple is, let it sit for a couple of days until it scabs. Then put it in Cacti & Succulent soil mix so the soil won’t be so soggy. I tried it every other way & this way works best for me.”

More than anything you need to be patient. Depending on your location it could take 2-3 years before the plant sets fruit.

Plus they WILL NOT handle freezing temperatures so if you are up north they will need protection.

Here is another video to start your pineapple journey… enjoy!
